Musical Monday ~ Songs With An Animal In The Title

~Plucking Of My Heartstrings~

Welcome to Musical Monday! Music has been known to affect our emotions. Listening to music can make us happy or sad, relaxed or motivated, put us to sleep or make us want to dance. Music absolutely plucks at our heartstrings bringing to the surface a multitude of emotions.

Someone once described music to me as a time machine. When we listen it often transports us back to a place in time. A certain song can bring back feelings of someone we loved, our wedding day, someone who died, or any of the many important times in our lives.

Music has always been a big part of my life. When I am sad listening to a sad song often allows me to release that sadness. Happy songs tend to take away my sadness. It has helped motivate me to do housework. Yep, just crank up the radio or a music television…

AtoZ Challenge: “J” is for Job Sites

Midlife Counts

Note: I am participating in the 2016 AtoZ Blogging Challenge. It’s the 7th consecutive year, and it began with just 100 bloggers. This year, there are more than 1,700 signed up for the challenge to blog almost daily in April. For more information,

J is for job sites. I have my favorites, but in recent days, started thinking that I bet I could find some additional ones.

I visited and found Best Job Search Engine Sites (updated March 7, 2016) – is listed first. This is my go-to site. I forgot about another one on the list, Simply Hired, and also U.S. Jobs.

I am not familiar with — apparently, this site searches jobs posted on company websites to add to their list (rather than employers posting to the sites).

Meandering around and their career section, I found some other sites I’m going to look into: Career…

Katrina and The Waves

A2Z-BADGE 2016-smaller_zpslstazvib13 pizza

                                                            The #13

So, there I was siting in a Pizza place my first night in Narvik, Norway, and as I awaited my #13 Pizza (with ham, chicken, onions, and peppers) I began to search the building for something that might tell me more about the town I just arrived in. A picture, a card for a cab company, a “Wanted” poster; anything.

A few seconds went by, and I instantly began to think my quest would fail. Suddenly, I spotted a large poster by the door. I got up and went to check it out. It was for an upcoming summer concert in Norway; “Stars of the Eighties.” The lead band would be none other than Katrina and The Waves. I…

Perplexed – #poetry #aprpad

Promptly Written

Prompt: pick an emotion, make it the title of your poem, and then, write your poem

Explain to me, if you will
how you wormed your way
into my life – I am guarded
against you wandering types
and the lies you tell

What ruse did you use
to captivate my attention?
Surely not those batting eyes
or that seductive smile
I’d catch on to those

Maybe it was the sly shift
from seduction to intellect
You charmed me with brains
knocked the wind out of me
with your witty repartee

Now that you are here
perhaps I will play along
match you tit for tat
just don’t expect my heart
to willingly be broken

You’ve peaked my curiosity
I’m no stranger to the whims
of a flutterby such as you
I know the day will come
when we part ways

‘Til then, I will wait and see

Cee’s Black & White Photo Challenge: Candid

Dandelion Fuzz

I have always taken a lot of photos of my kids and now grandkids. A LOT. Because of this, their tolerance for getting their picture taken has decreased and I find myself asking them to say “cheese” only when I know the moment is right. The result is that I take more candid shots of them. Granted it isn’t easy because after a lifetime of me hovering in the vicinity with a camera, they are on their guard and at any given moment will whip their heads around to glare at me. Fun, right?

It was hard to limit myself and it was even harder to choose what to share for Cee’s Black & White Photo Challenge: Candid Photo.

Ellie the Elegant Elephant

To Wonder at Beauty

Today is the day for the letter e in the A to Z Blog Challenge

For today’s offering I have a painting of Ellie the Elegant Elephant

Ellie says, “Trunks up, ladies, when you drink your tea.”  I’m sure she would lift her pinkie if she could, but it’s all kind of fused together.

I just got a Wacom tablet this weekend and am trying to get used to using it.  Here’s my attempt to draw/paint Ellie on it using Sketchbook Pro.  I found what looks like a good tutorial.  I couldn’t even figure out how to change the shape of the “canvas,”although you can’t really tell here, there’s a bunch of white space on the right.

I think it will be fun to use, once I figure it out.  And it’s good for my brain, I think.

And that’s it for today–thanks for stopping by.

‘E’ for earthquake

A sultry April afternoon in Siliguri and I was on the veranda of a friend’s house, sipping tea and exchanging pleasantries.

Suddenly the tea table seemed to shift the slightest bit and a sugar spoon clinked against a plate. I looked up at my friend and wondered if her foot had struck the table, maybe while trying to stretch her legs? She stared back with an inscrutable expression and as if reading my mind, said ‘Not me. I think it’s an earthquake.’

The next jolt was stronger. This time my heart shifted inside of me. We got up shakily and ran out to the garden calling to the maid and dog to hurry up, please… leaving cups and plates to clatter to the floor.

We held hands and stood in a circle — my friend, her maid and I — the furry white Apsu in the center — while the ground swayed beneath us. Would it crack open and swallow us up, like in the movies?

Exercise (A-Z Challenge)

Dare To Live Courageously...

After all that chocolate and baking you must be thinking how on earth can one eat like that all the time?  It’s exercise people; and it’s best stress buster around 🙂

In this day and age, health and fitness is on magazine covers, the news and on our phones.  It stares us in the face on a daily basis and people are still not willing to see it or how important it is.  I will admit I am a bit of a fitness freak but you don’t have to be.  It’s possible to walk just twenty minutes per day or take the stairs instead of the elevator all the time.  Sometimes I park my car far away from the mall doors as possible but also to find the best parking spot near the exit!  Always have a strategy 😉

The reasons and health benefits for doing exercise are endless and I…

It is sad to think that man is the elephant’s primary predator.  Because of a love for ivory trinkets and slow rates of reproduction, elephants are at risk for extinction.

Today at Poet’s United the prompt is citizenship.

What is our role as a citizen in these times?
